Manifest Climate’s Disclosure Benchmark Review

November 22, 2022

Manifest Climate’s inaugural Disclosure Benchmark Review provides an in-depth look at the current state of private sector climate disclosures. It includes a first look at the findings of Manifest Climate’s proprietary assessment models, which measure the decision-usefulness of organizations’ disclosures and their alignment with established climate reporting standards and frameworks.

Manifest Climate’s review of over 3,000 organizations in 65 countries finds that 66% are somewhat aligned with the recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), the world’s premier climate reporting framework. However, a deeper review of over 100 companies finds only 49% include decision-useful information. This suggests that although climate-related financial disclosure is increasing, it is only decision-useful about half the time. Our report explores disclosure alignment and decision-usefulness across sectors and by specific TCFD recommendations. It also features a deep-dive on the decision-usefulness of financial institutions’ disclosures.

The Disclosure Benchmark Review offers a glimpse at the power and utility of Manifest Climate’s assessment models. It also builds on our vision to scale climate competence and resilience by highlighting best practices, providing deeper insights into organizations’ climate progress, and inspiring climate actions that accelerate firms’ climate preparedness.
